Alia executes 100bn projects in Benue South – APC Chairman
The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Benjamin Omale, has said the state governor, Hyacinth Alia, has executed projects worth more than N100 billion in the Benue South Senatorial District, also known as Zone C, over the past three years.
Omale made the disclosure at the first annual convention of the Idoma Community in London, United Kingdom. An extract of his speech was made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Tuesday.
Omale said three major road projects alone in Zone C had a combined contract value of about N74.86 billion, adding that five-kilometre roads had also been awarded in each of the nine local government areas in the senatorial district.
The APC chairman added that several hundred billion naira had also been spent by the Alia-led administration on infrastructural development in the other two senatorial districts of the state, Benue North-East and Benue North-West, within the same period.
He maintained that the huge infrastructure projects had endeared the governor to the people of the state, who, he said, were willing to vote for him in his 2027 re-election bid.
According to him, “Contrary to insinuations that the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia has abandoned the Benue South Senatorial District, known as Zone C, I am in the best position to tell you the truth, and the fact is that developmental projects worth more than N100 billion have been executed in Benue South Senatorial District, Zone C, alone.
“So also, the other two senatorial districts, Benue North-East and Benue North-West, have witnessed projects worth hundreds of billions of naira. All these have endeared the governor to the people of our dear state.”
The APC chairman, who said the projects covered critical sectors, including road infrastructure, education and healthcare, described them as evidence of the Alia-led administration’s commitment to balanced development across the state.
He listed some of the projects in Zone C as the rehabilitation and construction of the 52-kilometre Oju-Awajir Road, valued at N25.59 billion and covering Oju, Konshisha and Gwer East local government areas; the 31.36-kilometre Igumale-Agila Road in Ado LGA, valued at N19.37 billion; and the 43.5-kilometre Obagaji-Okokolo-Agagbe Road, valued at N29.89 billion, covering Agatu and Gwer West LGAs.
Omale also cited the construction and renovation of 25 primary healthcare centres across five local government areas in Zone C, with facilities spread across Ohimini, Otukpo, Okpokwu, Obi and Oju.
The APC chairman further listed 29 schools in Zone C that had benefited from infrastructural intervention projects under the current administration, alongside five schools selected under the 2025 Matching Grant Programme.
“The schools are spread across Otukpo, Okpokwu, Ogbadibo, Obi, Ado, Agatu, Apa, Ohimini and Oju local government areas,” he noted.
Omale, who represented Governor Hyacinth Alia at the event, also expressed appreciation to the governor for the confidence reposed in him and commended his commitment to unity, peace, inclusive development and stronger engagement with the Idoma diaspora.
The Benue State APC chairman also commended the Och’Idoma and his wife, as well as the President of the Idoma Community in the UK, Chief Williams Obande, and the entire executive for their leadership and commitment to bringing Idoma sons and daughters together.
“This historic convention is a powerful platform for preserving our heritage, strengthening unity, empowering our youth and connecting the diaspora with our homeland. Together, let us build a stronger, more united and prosperous Idoma people at home and abroad,” he said.
Omale, however, called on Idoma people at home and in the diaspora to support the re-election of Governor Alia in 2027, saying a renewed mandate would enable the administration to consolidate and expand the achievements recorded across Zone C and the state.
The Ohonyeta Ki Doma urged the people to look beyond political differences and support continuity, stressing that the development already recorded under the administration should be sustained for the benefit of present and future generations.
