Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo has publicly lashed out at Tanzanian blogger Mange Kimambi after the latter made a controversial Instagram post targeting Ojo’s daughter, Priscilla, and her Tanzanian husband, singer Juma Jux.

The post, shared on Friday, urged the couple to “lay low” during Tanzania’s tense political season, accusing them of being a distraction ahead of the country’s national elections.

In her message, Kimambi referred to Priscilla as “a sweet girl” and acknowledged that Tanzanians had welcomed her warmly. However, she insisted that the couple’s social media activity, which has included romantic and celebratory posts since their wedding, was taking attention away from what she described as Tanzania’s “fight of a lifetime.”

Kimambi stated that citizens needed to focus on the political struggle for their rights and claimed that the government was using celebrities like Jux and Priscilla to distract the public.

“We need our people to pay attention to the fight, so we don’t need you and Jux to distract our people with stupid content that the government wants you guys to post,” Kimambi wrote.

She demanded that the couple refrain from posting for the next five months until after the elections, suggesting that they could resume their content afterward. She also warned that continued online activity could turn public sentiment against them.

“Please don’t make us hate you,” Kimambi added, referencing the couple’s upcoming trip to London. “Keep Jux in the room and no posting stupid shit to distract us from a fight of a lifetime. And while you’re at it, tell Jux to tell his bestie Diamond Platnumz to also lay low.”

She further accused the couple of enjoying government privileges at the expense of Tanzanian citizens and expressed skepticism that they would ever support the people’s struggle.

Iyabo Ojo did not take kindly to the comments. In a strongly worded Instagram post shared on Saturday, the actress directly addressed Kimambi, accusing her of intimidation, disrespect, and an overreach of influence.

“I’m appalled by your audacity!” Ojo wrote. “Referring to my daughter and her husband in such a manner, calling their content stupid, trying to drum fear and intimidation — this is unacceptable. As a parent, I’ve taught her to be confident and authentic. The Mkambala are very peaceful, but note, I don’t joke with my daughter.”

Ojo also used the opportunity to clear the air on rumors that the couple’s extravagant wedding was funded by the Tanzanian government. She explained that, in her family’s tradition, the bride’s family covers wedding expenses, and the grand affair was fully sponsored by her and other Nigerians who wanted to celebrate Priscilla.

“Regarding the wedding rumours — it’s not your government who gave us money,” she clarified. “I wanted an elaborate wedding for my daughter in Nigeria, and we, Nigerians, gave her one.”

She ended her message with a warning, reminding Kimambi that her daughter is free to post whatever she wants, whenever she wants, and does not need validation from anyone.

“It’s laughable that you, living in America, think you can dictate to my daughter and her husband, who are living their lives in Tanzania,” Ojo added. “Keep my daughter out of your affairs. She’ll post what she likes, when she likes, and how she likes. She doesn’t need you to love her. She is very loved and well loved. We protect our own. Never forget that.”

Priscilla and Juma Jux recently wrapped up a months-long wedding celebration that began in February with a traditional Tanzanian ceremony, followed by a civil wedding in Tanzania, then a series of lavish events in Nigeria.

The final celebration took place in May in Dar es Salaam, drawing attention from fans and media across Africa. The wedding, widely shared under the hashtag #JP2025, was hailed as one of the most glamorous celebrity unions of the year.

As Tanzania heads into a crucial political season, the online clash between Kimambi and Iyabo Ojo highlights the growing tension between entertainment, activism, and national identity — with the actress making it abundantly clear that her daughter will not be used as a political pawn.
