The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially unveiled its timetable and guidelines for the conduct of its 2026 primary elections, reinforcing its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and strict adherence to electoral regulations.

According to the National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the carefully structured schedule is designed to ensure orderliness and provide a level playing field for all aspirants across the country.

Key Dates and Activities

The process begins with the sale of nomination forms, scheduled to run from May 5 to May 10, 2026. Aspirants are expected to submit their completed forms between May 11 and May 13, 2026.

This will be followed by the screening of aspirants from May 14 to May 15, 2026, with the screening results released on May 17, 2026. Candidates who wish to challenge the outcome of the screening can do so during the appeals window from May 18 to May 19, 2026. The party will then publish the final list of cleared aspirants on May 20, 2026.

Primary Election Schedule

The ADC has outlined a staggered but coordinated primary election process:

  • May 21, 2026: State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate primaries (to be conducted simultaneously at the ward level)
  • May 22, 2026: Governorship primaries
  • May 25, 2026: Presidential primary

Following the primaries, the party will convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on May 26, 2026, and conclude with a Special National Convention on May 27, 2026, where final ratifications of candidates will take place.

Nomination Fees and Inclusivity Measures

In addition to the timetable, the ADC has approved a structured fee regime for nomination forms across all elective positions:

  • Presidential: ₦100 million
  • Governorship: ₦50 million
  • Senate: ₦20 million
  • House of Representatives: ₦10 million
  • State House of Assembly: ₦3 million

In a move aimed at encouraging broader participation, the party has introduced concessional rates:

  • 50% discount for youths
  • 25% discount for women and persons with disabilities

These measures reflect the ADC’s effort to lower barriers to entry and promote inclusivity within the political process.

A Call for Compliance and Participation

The party leadership has urged all members, stakeholders, and prospective aspirants to strictly adhere to the outlined schedule and guidelines. By doing so, the ADC aims to maintain a credible and transparent nomination process that strengthens democratic values within the party and across the nation.

As the 2026 election cycle approaches, the ADC’s early release of its timetable signals readiness and strategic planning, positioning the party as a key contender in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
