Video Emerges of Supporters Urging SGF Akume Not to Back Alia for Second Term
Governor Alia and SGF
A video circulating on social media has sparked fresh political conversations in Benue State after a group of supporters was seen calling on Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, not to support Governor Hyacinth Alia for another term in office.
In the footage, the supporters, whose identities were not immediately confirmed, were heard appealing to Akume to withhold political backing for Governor Alia ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
The video has since generated mixed reactions among political observers and supporters of both leaders, with many interpreting it as a sign of growing divisions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State.
Governor Alia and Senator Akume are two of the most influential political figures in the state, and any perceived crack in their relationship is expected to attract widespread attention as political activities gradually build toward the next election cycle.
Some supporters of the governor dismissed the video as the action of a few individuals, insisting that Alia still enjoys broad grassroots support across the state due to his policies and governance style.
Others, however, believe the incident reflects deeper tensions within the party that may need urgent reconciliation before future elections.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the office of the SGF nor the Benue State Government had officially reacted to the trending video.
