Governor Alia Make a Promise to Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Election
According to a report by Punch on Monday, July 6, 2026, in the 2027 general election, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State expressed confidence in the All Progressives Congress and predicted that President Bola Tinubu might collect as many as 620,000 votes from the state.
During Monday’s meeting with President Tinubu at Abuja’s Presidential Villa, Alia made the forecast.
Former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, whose recent turn toward the APC has ignited political concerns in the state, attended the governor.
The governor made the claim that the APC is in a stronger position to garner support in the upcoming election cycle due to its continuing expansion of influence across Benue.
The predicted rise in votes, he said, was due to the party’s increasing popularity among locals.
Alia claims that there has been a dramatic shift in the state’s political landscape, with the APC gaining ground in regions where the opposition had longer a foothold.
For the 2027 elections, he was hopeful that the party’s fortunes would improve as a result of the change.
The governor stated that during his meeting with the president, they discussed not just electoral affairs but also security concerns, agricultural development, and the plight of displaced persons, among other pressing issues impacting Benue.
Some victims of violent crimes have been able to return to their houses and start farming again, thanks to efforts to increase security, as Alia recounted.
Food production, economic development, and improved livelihoods depend on sustaining peace, he emphasised.
Additionally, the governor brought attention to various development projects that are currently underway in the state. These projects include infrastructure and industrial initiatives, which are designed to attract investment, generate employment opportunities, and enhance economic activities.
Alia expressed optimism that APC members would set aside their differences and work together to accomplish the party’s goals as 2027 election preparations heat up, while also addressing worries that followed recent internal party primaries.
