JUST IN: Fresh Benue Attacks Leave 16 Dead, Many Injured

At least 16 people have reportedly been killed in fresh attacks on communities in Otukpo and Kwande Local Government Areas of Benue State.
The deadliest incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday when suspected armed herdsmen reportedly invaded Efeyi community in Ugboju District, Otukpo LGA.
According to reports, 14 people were killed while several others sustained gunshot injuries. Some residents were also said to be missing, raising fears that the death toll could increase.
Residents said the attackers operated for hours before security personnel arrived, forcing several families to flee their homes.
In a separate incident in Kwande LGA, gunmen reportedly attacked farmers working on a Bambara nut farm, killing a woman and injuring others. The attackers also reportedly escaped with two motorcycles.
The Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Maxwell Ogiri, confirmed the attack and called for stronger enforcement of Benue State’s anti-open grazing law.
Ogiri expressed concern over the continued attacks despite the presence of security personnel in the affected communities.
The latest incidents have renewed concerns over the security situation in Benue, with residents calling for stronger measures to protect lives and prevent further attacks.
