Benue APC group lauds INEC for upholding NASS primary election results
A group of youths under the aegis of National Youths Vanguards for APC in Benue State has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), over its decision to upload National Assembly candidates who emerged at the various primaries conducted and officially monitored by the electoral body across the state.
Secretary of the group, Samuel Adikwu, gave the commendation during a press conference in Makurdi on Friday.
Adikwu, who underscored the internal democracy of the party, said the will of millions of party members during the conduct of the National Assembly primary election monitored by INEC was expressed in the results announced.
According to the group, the decision of the INEC to upload only the National Assembly candidates who emerged at primaries monitored by the commission will go a long way in resolving the impending crisis in the APC across the country.
Recall that the APC National Working Committee had two weeks ago substituted names of some APC National Assembly candidates with the names of serving National Assembly members in some states of the Federation, Benue inclusive.
The action has generated heat in the APC with some candidates who felt cheated threatening to go to court to reclaim their mandates.
But just a day ago, INEC cleared the air by promising not to upload names of candidates who didn’t emerge through primary elections that it monitored across the country.
Reacting to the INEC decision, National Youth Vanguards for APC stated that the INEC has once again proved that it’s reliable.
The group urged President Bola Tinubu to immediately prevail upon the party’s National Working Committee under Professor Nentawe Yilwadta to shun the illegality they want to impose on the ruling party.
