Alia’s Betrayal Of Workers Has Turned Benue Into A State Of Endless Strikes – ATD
ATD Accuses Alia Of Neglecting Benue Workers

The Alliance for Truth and Democracy (ATD), Benue State, has accused Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration of neglecting the welfare of workers, citing unresolved labour disputes and recurring industrial actions across the state.
The group made the allegations in a statement signed by its President, Jerome Zoho, in which it expressed concern over the ongoing crisis at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH).
According to ATD, Resident Doctors, Nurses and Consultants at the hospital are currently on strike over issues including pension deductions, outstanding arrears and other welfare concerns.
The group alleged that some doctors have had pension deductions made from their salaries for several years without corresponding remittances into their pension accounts. It also claimed that some workers are owed arrears running into several months.
ATD described the BSUTH situation as part of what it called a wider pattern of unresolved labour disputes involving public servants in the state.
The organisation further questioned the transparency of the state’s personnel expenditure, asking the government to provide clearer information on the number of workers on its payroll and the funds allocated to salaries, allowances and other personnel obligations.
The group said the recurring disputes could affect the delivery of essential public services, particularly in the health sector, where industrial action could disrupt medical services.
ATD called on the Alia administration to urgently resolve the BSUTH crisis and other outstanding labour disputes across the state.
It also demanded the remittance of outstanding pension deductions, payment of verified arrears and allowances, and implementation of agreements reached between the government and labour unions.
The group further urged the government to make information on the state’s wage bill and personnel expenditure publicly available, arguing that Benue residents have a right to know how public resources are being managed.
ATD said Governor Alia’s administration should address the concerns of workers and restore confidence in the state’s public service.
The statement was signed by Jerome Zoho, President of the Alliance for Truth and Democracy, Benue State.
