A political associate of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has stated that ex-Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has agreed to be his running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

The claim was made by Ibrahim Abdulkarim during an interview on Trust TV, as reported by Politics Nigeria. He noted that discussions between both camps have advanced beyond mere speculation, describing the arrangement as already settled.

“ I can categorically confirm that they have agreed,” Abdulkarim said, adding that supporters of both leaders are aware of the development. “Both the Obidient and Kwankwassiyya movements know about it,” he stated.

The reported agreement points to a potential alliance between two influential political blocs. The Obidient Movement rose to prominence during the last general elections, while the Kwankwassiyya Movement maintains a strong support base, particularly in northern Nigeria.

Analysts believe such a partnership could significantly reshape the 2027 presidential race and influence voting dynamics across key regions. Despite operating outside the two dominant political parties, both Obi and Kwankwaso continue to command considerable political followings.

The development comes shortly after Kwankwaso’s recent defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the African Democratic Congress, a move that has sparked fresh discussions within the political landscape.
