Players of Nigeria’s Super Falcons celebrated their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title with a heartfelt tribute to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during their reception at the Presidential Villa on Monday.

The jubilant squad, who recently triumphed over hosts Morocco in a thrilling 3-2 final in Rabat, burst into the now-famous chant, “Na our mama be this o,” twice — first upon arrival and again just before the First Lady delivered her address.

The chant, widely understood as a term of endearment meaning “This is our mother,” signaled the team’s warm appreciation for the First Lady’s support and presence.

Senator Tinubu, beaming with visible joy, expressed deep pride in the team’s achievement. She lauded the players for their discipline, resilience, and patriotic representation of Nigeria on the international stage.

“I am truly proud of each and every one of you,” she said. “Your victory has once again proven the strength, talent, and unity of Nigerian women.”

The chant has drawn attention not only for its celebratory tone but also for its contrast to a previous controversy earlier in the year.

During a visit to the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, students were seen in a viral video rebuffing the label of “everyone’s mother,” instead chanting “Na your mama be this.”

That event, part of the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Outreach in Asaba, had sparked mixed reactions nationwide.

However, the Super Falcons’ use of the phrase appeared deliberate and affectionate — a public show of solidarity that helped recast the slogan in a more positive light.

The reception was part of a broader celebration led by President Bola Tinubu to honor the team’s continental dominance, having clinched WAFCON titles in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2024, and now 2025.

With this latest triumph, the Super Falcons have not only extended their legacy but also reinforced their place as Africa’s most successful women’s national team.
