The ruling party, All Progressives Congress, has officially declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its presidential candidate following the conclusion of the party’s nationwide primary election.

Tinubu secured a sweeping victory with 10.99 million votes, defeating his only challenger, Stanley Osifo, who polled 16,504 votes.

Results released from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, showed overwhelming support for the president across the country.

Lagos State recorded the highest number of votes for Tinubu with 814,988 votes, followed by Adamawa with 644,149 votes and Kaduna with 618,914 votes.

Other states with strong support included Imo with 582,960 votes, Kano with 500,852 votes, Katsina with 467,003 votes and Gombe with 450,517 votes.

In the South-South region, Delta delivered 407,646 votes, Akwa Ibom recorded 389,197 votes, while Rivers contributed 280,082 votes.

Benue State gave the president 374,787 votes, Plateau recorded 241,720 votes, while Nasarawa delivered 285,436 votes.

In the South-West, Ogun State delivered 322,485 votes, Oyo recorded 142,754 votes, Ondo had 181,996 votes, Osun recorded 100,888 votes, while Ekiti contributed 85,340 votes.

Anambra recorded the lowest figure with 43,034 votes, while the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, delivered 36,103 votes for the president.

The outcome further strengthens Tinubu’s hold on the ruling party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
