Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have attacked Kautikari village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, setting ablaze educational facilities and forcing residents to flee for safety.

The attack, which occurred around 7 p.m. on Saturday, comes amid growing security concerns in the state following the abduction of pupils from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba, whose whereabouts remain unknown nearly a month later.

According to security sources, the insurgents stormed the community, causing panic among residents who escaped into nearby bushes. Initial reports indicated no casualties, but authorities later confirmed that one male resident was killed during the assault.

Residents described the attack as unusual, noting that although the community had previously suffered terrorist incursions, public and private properties were not destroyed during earlier incidents.

Confirming the attack, the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said the terrorists burned two classrooms at the Government Day Secondary School before being repelled by joint security forces.

“They attacked Kautikari village, where they burnt two classrooms at Government Day Secondary School and killed one person, a man. The suspected insurgents faced strong resistance from joint security forces, averting further losses. The area is now calm, while intensive patrols are ongoing,” Daso stated.

The Zonal Inspector for Local Government and Emirate Affairs covering Bama, Chibok, Gwoza, Askira/Uba and Damboa, Samaila Manza, also confirmed the incident but said authorities were still assessing the extent of the damage.

Local sources revealed that the attackers arrived in large numbers on motorcycles and appeared to have specifically targeted the school facilities. Many residents have since fled the area over fears of further attacks.
