A wave of grief has followed the tragic death of 30-year-old Nigerian athlete and graduate student, Oluwabukola “Bukky” Pereira, who was fatally shot on May 8 in the United States, just one week before she was set to earn her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Xavier University.

Pereira, described by friends and colleagues as hardworking, vibrant, and full of promise, was pursuing her MBA in Cincinnati, Ohio, while also building a reputation as a talented athlete and inspiring young Nigerian abroad.

Her untimely death has sparked an outpouring of sorrow from members of the Nigerian community, classmates, and loved ones, many of whom expressed heartbreak that her life was cut short at a moment that should have marked a major personal achievement.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting remain deeply shocking, as tributes continue to pour in for the young scholar whose dreams were tragically ended just days before graduation.
