The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised alarm over alleged attempts to deny it access to its scheduled convention venue, despite fulfilling all contractual obligations.

In a statement released on the eve of the event, the party disclosed that the management of Rainbow Event Centre informed it of mounting pressure from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to cancel the booking.

According to the ADC, the venue owner was reportedly threatened with the revocation of his operational licence if he allows the convention to proceed. The party noted that it had already completed payment and finalized arrangements for the event.

“After paying all the required fees and putting finishing touches to preparations for our convention tomorrow, the owner of Rainbow Event Centre has just informed us that he is under pressure from the FCDA and the FCT Minister,” the statement read.

Despite the situation, the party maintained that it has a binding agreement with the venue and remains determined to proceed as planned.

“We have already signed a contract with him. We will hold our convention tomorrow as scheduled at the Rainbow Event Centre,” the ADC stated.

Describing the development as an attempt to suppress democratic participation, the party warned against what it called a growing pattern of political intimidation. It reaffirmed its resolve, declaring that its movement remains strong and unstoppable.

“ADC is rising, Nigeria is rising,” the statement concluded.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the FCDA nor the office of the FCT Minister has responded to the allegations.

The ADC also recalled earlier challenges in securing alternative venues, including the Moshood Abiola Stadium and Eagle Square in Abuja, both of which were unsuccessful.
