2027: Jonathan Meets Tinubu in Aso Villa
Former President Goodluck Jonathan reportedly held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday, amid growing political speculation ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to The Nation, the meeting was conducted in private, with neither the Presidency nor Jonathan issuing an official statement on the outcome of the discussions.
The meeting comes at a time when Jonathan has remained silent over persistent reports linking him with a possible return to active politics and participation in the 2027 presidential election.
It will be recalled that on May 30, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Turaki, announced that Jonathan’s name and credentials had been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s presidential candidate.
However, when INEC released its list of 19 presidential candidates on Saturday, Jonathan’s name was notably absent, fueling fresh questions about his political intentions.
While the agenda of Sunday’s meeting between Jonathan and Tinubu has not been made public, the timing has attracted significant attention, with political observers suggesting it could be connected to developments ahead of the 2027 elections. Neither the Presidency nor Jonathan has commented on the speculation.
