Former Benue State governor, Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam, has emerged winner of the Benue North East (Zone A) APC Senatorial Primary after securing a commanding 131,083 votes.
Suswam defeated the incumbent senator, Emmanuel Memga Udende, in the fiercely contested primary election held across the seven local government areas of Katsina-Ala, Logo, Ukum, Konshisha, Vandeikya, Kwande and Ushongo.
In the Benue South Senatorial District, former federal lawmaker, Francis Ottah Agbo, also emerged victorious in the APC senatorial primary amid controversy and allegations of candidate imposition.
The contest was initially expected to witness a tough battle among top aspirants, including former Senate aspirant, Hon. Daniel Onjeh. However, Onjeh later withdrew from the race, alleging irregularities and accusing some party stakeholders of attempting to impose a preferred candidate on the party.
Despite withdrawing from the contest, Onjeh’s name remained on the ballot and he eventually polled 4,570 votes.
According to the final results announced after the exercise, Francis Ottah Agbo secured 58,760 votes to clinch victory in the Benue South primary election.
Other candidates recorded the following results: Hon. Joseph Ojobo polled 6,782 votes, Engr. Oloche Agidani secured 5,246 votes, Hon. Nelson Alapa got 4,312 votes, while Patrick Ojechema Idoko garnered 2,732 votes.
Meanwhile, results for the Benue North West (Zone B) APC Senatorial Primary are still being awaited.
