President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo as the new Prime Minister of Senegal, replacing Ousmane Sonko, who is expected to assume the presidency of the National Assembly on Tuesday.
Lo previously served as Secretary-General of the Government and most recently held the position of Minister of State at the Presidency, where he oversaw the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Senegal’s long-term national transformation programme, “Vision 2050.”
Widely regarded as a close ally and trusted technocrat of President Faye, Lo’s appointment signals a significant political shift within the Senegalese government.
Political observers say the move appears to reflect President Faye’s effort to consolidate control of the executive arm of government and reshape the administration under his direct leadership, distancing the presidency from the influence of Sonko’s political bloc.
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments in Senegal following the emergence of the Faye-led administration.
