A former Senior Special Assistant on Community Development to the Governor of Katsina State, Nura Aliyu Garwa, has been arrested over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of an eight-year-old boy.
According to sources familiar with the matter, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) swung into action after a report was made regarding the abduction.
The operation reportedly led to the arrest of six suspected members of Garwa’s gang on May 23, 2026, while the former government aide himself was apprehended a day later on May 24, 2026.
Sources alleged that Garwa coordinated a network of criminal gangs and bandits operating within parts of Katsina State. Security operatives are said to be investigating the extent of his alleged involvement in kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Garwa recently resigned from his position as SSA on Community Development to pursue political ambitions, including contesting for a seat in the Katsina State House of Assembly.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the arrest or the condition of the abducted child as investigations continue.
The development has generated reactions among residents, many of whom expressed shock over the allegations against a former government official entrusted with community affairs.
