Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has called on state governors to allow funds allocated to local governments reach them directly, stressing that true development begins at the grassroots.

Speaking at the One Nigeria Project Conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Ortom said that local governments play a central role in security, agriculture, and overall community development. He noted that the Supreme Court has already affirmed local government autonomy and that the Federal Government has been releasing funds consistently.

According to him, if these funds are allowed to get to the councils without interference, communities across the country will witness meaningful progress.

Ortom also urged collaboration between former and current local government chairmen, saying teamwork is essential for advancing shared goals.

He added that with unity and commitment from all 36 governors, Nigeria can address many of its current challenges, reaffirming that ALGON’s mission is to promote cooperation and national cohesion.
