Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and a leading figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Babachir Lawal, has declared that the party will take part in the 2027 general elections irrespective of the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, Lawal maintained that the ADC’s recently held convention remains legitimate, even though the electoral body was not present. He explained that the party proceeded based on guidance from its legal team and described the exercise as successful, despite alleged attempts by the government to undermine it.

Lawal dismissed INEC’s authority to invalidate the party’s actions, stressing that the commission does not function as a court of law. He insisted that regardless of any pronouncements from the electoral body, the ADC is determined to appear on the ballot and contest the 2027 polls.

He further stated that the party is equipped with the capacity and expertise to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges. However, he emphasized that its immediate objective is to prevent the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from retaining power, noting that halting the current administration is a necessary first step before implementing the party’s solutions.
