The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Makurdi Local Government Area has unanimously endorsed former lawmaker, Herman Hembe, as their consensus candidate ahead of the party’s 2026 governorship primary election in Benue State.
The endorsement, described by party stakeholders as a major political breakthrough, reportedly followed extensive consultations among leaders and critical stakeholders within the party structure in Makurdi LGA.
According to party insiders, leaders from the five political components in Makurdi LGA collectively agreed to support Hembe’s aspiration and also declared that they would not entertain any other governorship aspirant within the council ahead of the ADC primary election.
The development is expected to strengthen Hembe’s political influence within the party as preparations intensify for the 2026 governorship contest in Benue State.
The historic endorsement meeting took place in the early hours of Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Makurdi residence of Hon. Mzondu Benjamin Bem, where party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to delivering a united front for the ADC in the forthcoming elections.
Political observers believe the endorsement could significantly shape the internal dynamics of the ADC in Benue, especially as more aspirants are expected to signal interest in the governorship race in the coming months.
The endorsement statement was made available by Gabriel Shuur.
