Nigerian entrepreneur and celebrity barman, Cubana Chief Priest, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not completely trust him because of his Igbo background and his past support for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking during a chat with streamer Peller on Tuesday evening, the nightlife promoter said he believes the President still views him with suspicion over his previous political alignment.
“Let me tell you, as I am now, Tinubu doesn’t really trust me as an Igbo man. He looks at me with one eye. He is still like, ‘this one that has worked for Peter Obi before,’” he said.
Cubana Chief Priest explained that although he initially worked for Peter Obi during the 2023 elections, he later withdrew his support because he believed Obi could not defeat Tinubu politically.
The socialite, who currently serves as the Imo State Coordinator of the City Boys Movement, has in recent times openly declared support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. He previously stated that he did not want to “lose for a second time” with Peter Obi, insisting that the former Labour Party presidential candidate stands little chance of defeating Tinubu in 2027.
Recall that Cubana Chief Priest had earlier obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives nomination form to contest for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in Imo State. However, he failed to secure the party’s ticket.
Following the outcome, the celebrity businessman later claimed he never actually contested the election.
His defeat sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians mocking his political ambition and suggesting he underestimated the harsh realities of Nigerian politics.
Amid the backlash, Seyi Tinubu publicly encouraged him through an Instagram post later reposted by Cubana Chief Priest. Seyi urged him not to be discouraged by the setback, noting that political defeats could serve as stepping stones to future success.
