Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, on Thursday described himself as a politician who keeps an open mind about political possibilities.

The governor made the remark while responding to questions from journalists shortly after submitting the state’s 2026 budget proposal to the Adamawa State House of Assembly.

Fintiri neither confirmed nor denied ongoing speculations about a possible move to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a stance that has continued to fuel public debate. When asked to react to rumours of a potential defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the timing of such a move, he said, “I am a grassroots politician. Whatever happens, when it happens, you will be in a position to judge me.”

He added that he was not prepared to speak extensively on the matter at the moment, noting that his current focus remains on strengthening the PDP, the party under which he was elected into office.

Political observers say the governor’s comments stop short of a clear denial of the defection rumours. According to analysts, the absence of a firm position has reinforced widespread speculation that Fintiri may eventually join the growing list of governors who have crossed over to the APC.
