The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has condemned the alleged attack on one of its members, Mr. Peter Terna Akaa, popularly known as “Double Man,” warning against rising political violence in the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s State Secretary, Comrade Dan Nyikwagh, the PDP alleged that armed men invaded Akaa’s residence in Tse-Abagi, Mbaikyon, Tsambe Council Ward in Vandeikya Local Government Area on the night of Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

The party described the incident as a coordinated attempt to harm the PDP media team member.

According to the statement, some unidentified persons allegedly contacted Akaa through a phone number, “08111954254,” to inquire about his whereabouts before the attack. The PDP further claimed that additional calls were allegedly made afterward in an attempt to confirm his location after the attackers reportedly failed to apprehend him.

The opposition party named some individuals allegedly linked to the incident, including Denen Yough, identified as the immediate past APC Tsambe Ward Chairman, alongside Terkimbi Tyongi, Gever Zape, and King Inja Uor, among others yet to be identified.

The PDP also alleged that the group responsible for the attack was loyal to Hon. Emmanuel Shimawua, the lawmaker representing Kyan State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly.

The party, however, stressed that the allegations were serious and required immediate investigation by security agencies.

“We strongly condemn every form of violence, harassment and intimidation being deployed by desperate political actors to silence opposing voices,” the statement read.

The PDP warned that insecurity in Benue State was becoming more dangerous with alleged political dimensions, adding that no citizen should be threatened because of political affiliation or expression.

The party disclosed that it would submit formal petitions to the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), demanding a comprehensive investigation into the matter and the questioning of all persons mentioned in the allegations.

The PDP further urged security agencies to remain neutral and professional in handling the matter, insisting that anyone found culpable should face justice regardless of political status.

Reaffirming its commitment to democracy and the rule of law, the party said it would not remain silent while its members faced intimidation and threats.
