APC Chairman Yilwatda Says Opposition Parties Are ‘Just Participants’ In 2027 Elections
The Major Opposition Parties You're Talking About, None Of Them Has Ever Won Councilorship

According to a report by Channels Television on Sunday, September 27, 2026, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has described opposition parties preparing to contest the 2027 general elections as “just participants”, insisting that the ruling party is fully prepared to contest the elections at all levels.
Yilwatda made the statement on Saturday while briefing journalists at the end of a three-day retreat organised for members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The retreat provided an opportunity for members of the party’s leadership to review its preparations for the forthcoming elections and discuss strategies ahead of the 2027 polls
The APC chairman said the party had continued to take steps aimed at strengthening its structures and ensuring that its candidates were adequately prepared for the elections.
According to Yilwatda, the APC has completed several important preparations for the 2027 general elections, including the inauguration of campaign councils and reconciliation committees.
He said the party remained confident in the candidates who emerged from its primary elections and had resolved to intensify its campaign activities as the elections approach.
He also stated that the party had taken steps to address issues that could affect its preparations, while maintaining its focus on securing victories for its candidates across the country.
The APC chairman further disclosed that the party had passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and other APC candidates ahead of the elections.
He said the decision reflected the position of the party leadership as it continues to mobilise its members and supporters ahead of the 2027 polls.
Yilwatda also pointed to the early preparations being made by the ruling party, stressing that its campaign council had already been constituted as part of the activities planned ahead of the elections.
Addressing concerns over internal disputes arising from the party’s primary elections, Yilwatda said between 6,000 and 7,000 members participated in the exercise across the country.
He added that about 100 cases had been taken to court in connection with the primaries.
Despite the legal challenges, the APC chairman maintained that the party had remained focused on its preparations for the general elections.
He also contrasted the electoral record of the APC with that of what he described as the major opposition parties, arguing that the ruling party had demonstrated its ability to participate in and win elections at different levels.
He said, “We are the most prepared; we contested in many elections and won. The major opposition parties you are talking about, none of them has ever won a councilorship; as far as I am concerned, they are just participants in this election.”
