BREAKING: Six Killed, Eight Injured As Bomb Explodes On Zamfara Road
No fewer than six persons have been confirmed dead, while eight others sustained injuries after a commercial vehicle ran into an explosive device along the Bagega-Anka road in Zamfara State.
The tragic incident happened on Thursday when a Volkswagen Golf car carrying passengers from Bagega to Anka exploded in Anka Local Government Area of the state.
According to a security operative involved in the rescue mission, six passengers died instantly after the blast.
The source added that emergency responders arrived at the scene over 20 minutes later to evacuate victims and provide assistance.
Those injured in the explosion included a woman, her child, and six men. They were immediately taken to the Primary Healthcare Centre in Bagega for medical treatment.
A resident of Bagega, whose brother was among the injured victims, said the family received information about the incident from a soldier.
“When I got to the hospital, I was told that bandits planted the bomb on the road,” the resident said.
The witness asked not to be identified due to security concerns in the area.
Efforts to get an official reaction from the Zamfara State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the command’s spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, did not respond to calls, text messages, or WhatsApp messages sent to him.
Anka and nearby communities have continued to experience repeated attacks linked to banditry and terrorism in western Zamfara State.
Before December 2024, cases involving improvised explosive devices were rare in the state. However, several explosions have since been recorded after notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide was reportedly linked to planting explosive devices in different parts of Zamfara.
Reports indicate that at least six explosion-related incidents have occurred across the state in recent months.
