Several schoolchildren are feared abducted after suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists invaded Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday morning.
According to reports, the attackers stormed the school on motorcycles barely 15 minutes after security troops left the community on patrol.
A resident, Mr. Solomon Mussa, raised alarm over the attack in a social media post, calling for prayers for the affected community.
“Please pray for the Mussa Boko Haram attack in Mussa village now. According to reports coming from Mussa, schoolchildren were affected,” he wrote.
Confirming the incident, the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, said suspected terrorists invaded both the primary and junior secondary schools in the village.
“Yes, I can confirm that some suspected terrorists riding on motorcycles invaded primary and junior secondary schools in Mussa village this morning,” he said.
He explained that many students reportedly fled into nearby bushes during the attack, though the exact number of abducted children had yet to be confirmed as of press time.
The lawmaker described the incident as disturbing, noting that the attackers struck shortly after troops departed the area.
“It is disheartening that the incident happened only minutes after troops on patrol left the community. This suggests the insurgents were monitoring the movement of security personnel before carrying out the attack,” he added.
Police authorities in the state had not issued an official statement on the development at the time of filing this report.
Mussa village is located near the Sambisa Forest, a known hideout for Boko Haram insurgents operating in the North-East region.
