The successful conduct of the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Benue State has been described as a strong indication of the growing acceptance and popularity of Governor Hyacinth Alia within the party.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, said the APC primaries across Benue were peaceful, coordinated, and marked by massive participation from party faithful across the state.
According to him, the exercise, which produced candidates for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship and Presidential elections, has become a reference point in the political history of the state due to its orderly conduct and unity displayed by party members.
Kula noted that from Makurdi to rural communities such as Obagaji, Agila, Anwase and Chito, APC supporters turned out in large numbers, demonstrating renewed confidence in the party and Governor Alia’s administration.
He attributed the peaceful atmosphere during the week-long exercise to the governor’s inclusive leadership style, people-oriented programmes, and deliberate efforts to unite stakeholders across political divides.
The statement further stated that the recent reconciliation among APC stakeholders in Benue also contributed significantly to restoring peace and strengthening internal cohesion within the party.
Kula commended party officials and electoral committees for conducting the exercise transparently in line with party guidelines, while also praising security agencies for maintaining peace and professionalism throughout the primaries.
He added that the successful exercise has projected the Benue APC as a more organized and united political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on the exercise, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the primaries across states, commending governors for ensuring credible congresses and electoral processes.
Kula maintained that the outcome of the primaries has energized APC supporters in Benue and reinforced confidence in the party’s leadership as preparations begin for the 2027 elections.
