Breaking: INEC announces winner of Ekiti Guber Election

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election after polling 319,224 votes.

Oyebanji defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Wole Oluyede, who secured 40,543 votes in the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result on Sunday through the Chief Returning Officer, Mrs. Adenike Oladiji, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

Oladiji stated that Oyebanji satisfied all constitutional requirements and was therefore returned elected.

INEC disclosed that the state had 988,251 registered voters, while 384,949 voters were accredited for the poll. A total of 382,109 votes were cast, with 6,332 votes rejected.

Reacting to the outcome, APC Collation Agent, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, urged other contestants to support the governor in his efforts to further develop the state.

He noted that elections produce only one winner and called on all political actors to demonstrate sportsmanship and work together for the progress of Ekiti State.

Oyebanji recorded victories across the state’s local government areas, securing a comfortable margin over his closest challenger to retain the governorship seat for the APC.
