Three members of the House of Representatives have defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
The defections were announced on Wednesday during plenary, barely 24 hours after the National Assembly resumed from its Sallah break.
One of the lawmakers, Rabilu Bala, who represents Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, left the APC for the PRP. His defection letter, read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, stated that ongoing internal crises within the APC and his desire to better represent his constituents informed his decision.
Also, Abubakar Zango, representing Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State, announced his departure from the APC to join the ADC. Zango said his decision was based on his conscience and what he considered the national interest, while pledging continued commitment to his legislative duties and democratic values.
Similarly, Abdullahi El-Rasheed, the lawmaker representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe State, also dumped the APC for the ADC.
