The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged victorious in all 20 Local Government Areas of Adamawa State where results from the recently conducted council elections have been declared.
The only outstanding result is from Numan Local Government Area, where voting is currently taking place after the election was postponed from Saturday, June 13, when polls were held across the other LGAs.
Reports have suggested that some of the newly elected officials may eventually defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party Governor Ahmadu Fintiri joined earlier this year. However, the council chairmen who were previously endorsed by the PDP to seek re-election remained with the party throughout the process.
Sources indicated that preparations for the local government election were already at an advanced stage before the political realignment that saw Governor Fintiri leave the PDP for the APC in February. Many of his loyal supporters subsequently followed him into the ruling party.
Reacting to the outcome, the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Chief Maurice Vunobolki, congratulated the newly elected council chairmen, describing the party’s performance as evidence of its continued popularity among the people of Adamawa State.
The election was conducted by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC).
