The development comes amid concerns over unemployment and the need to provide young people with practical skills that can improve their chances of securing employment or starting businesses.
Speaking with journalist Emmanuel Shoon Patrick Supports Youth Skills Development Through Optoelectronics Business
at his office in Abuja on September 13, 2026, Patrick said some beneficiaries, including Martins, Chioma, Robert and Israel, had received training through the company.
According to him, the training covered areas including LED lighting, CCTV installation, fibre optics, solar and electronics, as well as device repairs.
Optoelectronics involves the use of optical and electronic technologies, with applications in areas such as telecommunications, security systems, lighting and automation.
Patrick said some of the beneficiaries had also gained work experience through their involvement with the company, while others received support aimed at helping them develop their technical capabilities.
The initiative reflects the potential role of private-sector businesses in complementing government and other institutional efforts to address youth unemployment through practical training and employment opportunities.
Experts and stakeholders have continued to emphasize the importance of technical education, access to finance, infrastructure and an enabling business environment in helping young Nigerians develop sustainable livelihoods.
The activities of Excel Optoelectronics Company Limited come as businesses and other organisations increasingly explore ways of equipping young people with technical skills relevant to the growing technology sector.
Patrick said the private sector has a role to play alongside government in creating opportunities that enable young Nigerians to contribute to economic activity.
