Benue Governor’s Aide Rescues Alleged Phone Thief From Mob in Makurdi
The Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Internal Security, Dr. Joseph Har, on Tuesday rescued an alleged phone thief from an angry mob at Ugbokolo Street in the High-Level area of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The suspect, identified simply as David (surname withheld), was reportedly caught after allegedly entering a salon and stealing a mobile phone and N200. Enraged youths descended on him and beat him severely before attempting to lynch him.
Dr. Har, who was alerted to the incident, rushed to the scene and successfully intervened, rescuing the suspect from the crowd before the situation turned fatal.
During questioning, David admitted to the alleged theft and appealed for mercy. He explained that he had travelled to Makurdi in search of employment after hearing about a possible job opportunity. However, upon arriving, he was informed that there were no vacancies.
The suspect, who identified himself as a schoolteacher based in Gboko, said desperation pushed him into committing the crime. He was subsequently handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
