Security operatives in Benue State have arrested seven suspects in connection with the recent abduction of passengers in Otukpo, marking a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, confirmed the arrests, noting that they followed a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation. The suspects are currently in custody as authorities deepen their investigations.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when armed men intercepted a Benue Links bus, dispossessed passengers of their belongings, and forcefully took several victims into the bush. Police say 14 people were kidnapped during the attack, though some have since been rescued or managed to escape.
Security agencies have since intensified search-and-rescue efforts across nearby areas, working to ensure the safe return of those still in captivity.
Meanwhile, the police have debunked claims circulating online that the victims were UTME candidates, stating that such reports remain unverified.
