CBN Moves to Block Mefona LLC’s U.S. Trademark Bid, Cites Sovereignty and Protection of “eNaira” Brand

The CBN letter was a strategic intervention designed to stop Mefona LLC from securing USA trademark rights over “eNaira” it framed the issue as one of the sovereignty, statutory monopoly and consumers protection while casting doubts on Mefona motives.

Effectively, CBN was trying to reserve global control of the “eNaira “brand even outside Nigeria by leveraging its central bank authority and influencing USPITO examiners.
