The political atmosphere in Benue State has taken a new shape following the emergence of Rt. Hon. Barr. Herman Iorwase Hembe as the winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship primary election ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial race.
The ADC governorship primaries, which took place on Thursday, May 22, 2026, witnessed strong participation from party stakeholders, delegates, and supporters across the state. At the end of the exercise, Herman Hembe emerged victorious, leading the poll ahead of other aspirants, including Joseph Waya of Vandeikya Local Government Area.
Hembe’s emergence has continued to generate reactions among supporters and political observers who believe the former federal lawmaker possesses the experience and leadership capacity needed to reposition Benue State.
Speaking after his victory, Herman Hembe promised to rescue, restore, and rebuild Benue State through purposeful leadership, unity, development, and people-oriented governance. According to him, the journey towards transforming the state has begun, urging party members and supporters to remain united ahead of the 2027 general election.
Rt. Hon. Barr. Herman Iorwase Hembe hails from Gaav in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State. He is widely respected for his political experience and contribution to democratic governance in Nigeria.
Hembe previously represented the Konshisha/Vandeikya Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for three complete terms, where he played significant roles in national politics and constituency development. Throughout his years in office, he became known for advocating youth empowerment, infrastructural development, education, and improved welfare for his people.
Supporters of the ADC candidate have described his victory as a new beginning for Benue politics, expressing confidence that his leadership vision would bring positive change to the state.
