The All Progressives Congress (APC) have intensified as three former appointees and allies of Governor Hyacinth Alia reportedly joined the political camp of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development comes despite previous reconciliation efforts between Governor Alia and Senator Akume, whose prolonged political differences have continued to create divisions within the ruling party in the state. Earlier in May, both leaders held a peace meeting aimed at resolving internal disputes ahead of the APC primaries and the 2027 elections.

Those said to have moved to Akume’s camp include former APC governorship candidate and ex-member of the House of Representatives for Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, Barrister Emmanuel Jime; former Commissioner for Youth, Creativity and Innovation, Tiza Isaac Imojime; and former Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth and Media Mobilisation, Joseph Terver Atu, who recently resigned from the Alia administration. Reports of Atu’s resignation had earlier sparked speculation about shifting political loyalties within the APC.

In a show of support, Senator Akume reportedly led a delegation to Abuja on Friday to attend Jime’s birthday celebration. The event was also attended by notable political figures, including PDP governorship aspirant Michael Aondoakaa (SAN).

Confirming the development, spokesperson of Akume’s camp, Dan-Morgan Ihomun, welcomed the former Alia loyalists, saying they had returned to join the SGF’s political family.

According to him, the group remains committed to mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Reacting to the reports, APC State Publicity Secretary Benedict Yawe said he would comment on the matter after obtaining complete details.

Political observers believe the latest defections could further deepen the rivalry between the Alia and Akume factions as both camps continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 electoral contest.
