APC Wins Five of Six Bye-Elections Nationwide
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its political strength after emerging victorious in five of the six bye-elections conducted across the country on Saturday.
According to results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC won the senatorial bye-elections in Enugu North, Ondo South and Nasarawa North, as well as the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat in Kano State and the Zuru State Constituency seat in Kebbi State. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured the only non-APC victory in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District.
In Enugu North Senatorial District, APC candidate Ikeje Asogwa won with 162,360 votes, defeating PDP’s Chief Nestor Ezeme, who polled 9,299 votes. The election was held to fill the vacancy created by the death of Senator Okey Ezea in November 2025.
In Ondo South, APC’s Dayo Faduyile emerged victorious after securing 68,474 votes, while his closest challenger, Adeolu Akinwunmi of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), received 1,411 votes. The seat became vacant following the appointment of former Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The PDP recorded its lone victory in Rivers South-East Senatorial District, where Olaka Nwogu defeated APC candidate Osar Erewari. Nwogu polled 47,961 votes against Erewari’s 1,647 votes. The by-election was conducted following the death of Senator Barry Mpigi earlier this year.
In Nasarawa North Senatorial District, APC candidate Barrister Danladi Halilu Envulu-Anza secured victory with 45,362 votes. He defeated Labour Party candidate and former Information Minister Labaran Maku, who scored 12,931 votes, and PDP’s David Ombugadu, who garnered 11,331 votes. The election was held to replace late Senator Godiya Akwashiki.
Meanwhile, APC’s Rabiu Shuaibu won the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency bye-election in Kano State with 35,356 votes. He defeated candidates of the APM and Labour Party. The poll followed the death of former lawmaker Muhammad Danjuma-Hassan.
In Kebbi State, APC candidate Rabiu Garba Aiki emerged winner of the Zuru State Constituency bye-election with 4,887 votes, defeating Labour Party candidate Aliyu Galadima Muhammad, who secured 168 votes. The seat became vacant after the death of former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru.
The results further strengthened APC’s position across the country, with the party claiming victory in the majority of the bye-elections conducted nationwide.
