The Kogi East APC Elites Forum has urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio and APC chieftain James Faleke to allow stakeholders in Kogi State, particularly in Kogi East, determine the political future of the senatorial district without outside interference.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, the group warned that any attempt to influence or manipulate the APC primary election process in the state could harm the party’s prospects in future elections.

The forum insisted that issues surrounding the APC senatorial candidacy should be resolved through established democratic procedures and in line with the wishes of party members in the district.

It also threw its weight behind Chief Joe Erico, describing him as the preferred candidate of many stakeholders across Kogi East.

According to the group, there have been concerns over alleged attempts by individuals outside the district to influence political decisions. It called on all interested parties to respect the views and choices of local APC members.

“Kogi East possesses capable leaders, experienced party elders, and a vibrant grassroots structure fully capable of determining its political future,” the forum stated.

It added that the choice of who represents Kogi East should reflect the wishes of APC members and stakeholders within the district.

The group stressed that internal democracy remains critical to the unity and success of the APC and urged all party members to respect outcomes reached through due process.

“Our purpose is simple and clear: to reaffirm our collective support for Chief Joe Erico, whom we recognise as the candidate who emerged through the accepted democratic process,” the statement added.

The forum further appealed to the APC national leadership to ensure fairness, transparency and justice, while calling on party faithful in Kogi East to remain calm, united and committed to the party.
