APC, Presidency Slam Obi as ‘Political Nomad’ Over Defection
The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency have taken a swipe at former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, accusing him of shopping for an uncontested presidential ticket following his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made the claim in a post on X on Sunday, reacting to Obi’s decision to leave the ADC. He described the former governor as a “political rolling stone” who is unwilling to stay and build any political party.
“Peter Obi is never willing to remain to build any party. He fantasizes about becoming president on a ticket delivered on a platter of gold,” Morka said. “He’s a political rolling stone that gathers no moss, roaming again in search of a free, uncontested and unchallenged presidential ticket.”
Morka further mocked Obi’s political journey across multiple parties, stating: “APGA – PDP – LP – ADC, now moving on to NDC. Fare thee well, Nigeria’s inconsolable political drifter.”
Peter Obi had earlier announced his resignation from the ADC in a statement shared via his X handle, citing a hostile and discouraging political environment. He noted that internal disputes and persistent legal challenges within the party played a major role in his decision.
Obi, however, clarified that his exit was not driven by personal disagreements with key party leaders, including former Senate President David Mark and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Reacting separately, the Presidency also criticised Obi’s latest political move. Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the former governor as a “political nomad,” accusing him of inconsistency and opportunism.
According to Onanuga, Obi’s defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections reinforces concerns about his frequent movement between political platforms in pursuit of presidential ambition.
The latest development adds another twist to Nigeria’s evolving political landscape as key players begin early positioning for the 2027 presidential race.
