Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has downplayed the defection of former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege from the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the former lawmaker cannot be trusted.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, Oborevwori said Omo-Agege’s departure from the APC did not come as a surprise, claiming party leaders were already aware of his plans.
The governor alleged that Omo-Agege was not fully committed during the party’s recent primary elections, noting that he failed to consult key stakeholders before making his move.
“We were aware of his exit, and that was why he was not serious in the context of the primaries. He never consulted anybody, he never consulted me, and he never called party leaders,” Oborevwori said.
Omo-Agege recently left the APC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after losing the party’s senatorial primary election.
Oborevwori maintained that the former Deputy Senate President’s exit poses no threat to the APC, insisting that the party remains strong in Delta State.
According to the governor, President Bola Tinubu remains a major political project for the party in the state, adding that Delta residents are firmly behind the president.
“His departure is not a threat to us because APC is a big party. President Bola Tinubu is my biggest project, and we in Delta are solidly behind him. Delta people were deceived earlier, but not anymore,” he said.
The governor further expressed confidence that Delta voters would overwhelmingly support Tinubu in future elections, stressing that the APC remains unshaken despite Omo-Agege’s defection.
