Nigeria’d Ruling Party Has Not Released Final List of Senatorial Candidates for 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as false and misleading a viral list circulating on social media that claims to contain the names of the party’s cleared senatorial candidates for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The list, which has been widely shared across various online platforms, alleges that the APC has officially released the names of senatorial candidates across 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the 2027 polls. The claim quickly gained attention among party supporters, political observers, and prospective candidates.
However, investigations have shown that the document did not originate from the ruling party.
Nigeria’s next general election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, while political parties are expected to conclude their primary elections in line with the electoral timetable. Although the APC has conducted several primaries for governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly positions, the process for senatorial nominations experienced delays due to internal disputes, zoning controversies, and other logistical challenges.
On May 18, 2026, the APC released a list of 47 aspirants who were disqualified from participating in its senatorial primaries. However, there has been no official publication of a final list of cleared senatorial candidates by the party.
The APC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, categorically rejected the circulating document, describing it as fake. In an official statement, the party stressed that the list did not emanate from any authorized APC organ.
“The APC wishes to state that the said list is FAKE and did not emanate from the Party,” Morka stated.
The party further explained that only duly constituted committees and authorized party organs have the power to announce candidates who emerge from its primary elections. It therefore urged members of the public, party faithful, and stakeholders to disregard the viral list.
As of June 16, 2026, reports indicated that the APC was still finalizing internal processes and preparing submissions to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the stipulated deadline.
Political analysts have warned that the spread of unverified information could create confusion among voters, trigger unnecessary political tension, and mislead aspirants about the status of party nominations.
The APC has therefore called on Nigerians to rely solely on official party communications and credible sources for updates regarding its candidates for the 2027 elections.
