Gov. Alia Hails Pensioners, BEMOA Support, Seeks APC Unity, Unveils Plan to Revive Taraku Mills
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has praised the support shown by pensioners and members of the Benue Motorcycle Owners Association (BEMOA), while announcing plans to revitalize Taraku Mills as part of efforts to boost the state’s economy.
Governor Alia stated this on Saturday at the Government House in Makurdi after receiving the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms purchased for him by the Benue State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), led by its chairman, Michael Vembe, and BEMOA, led by its State President, Comrade Terfa Aha, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The governor said he remains committed to transforming Benue State until it regains its rightful place among leading states in Nigeria.
According to him, anyone determined to reform society must be prepared to face criticism, insults, and resistance, stressing that he would not be distracted by attacks or political gang-ups.
Alia also revealed that his administration has concluded plans to revive Taraku Mills, describing the company as a key part of his economic agenda. He said the move would help restore industrial activities, create jobs, and strengthen Benue’s agro-based economy.
He added that the initiative forms part of broader plans to reposition the state for sustainable growth, with policies aimed at improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
While appreciating the confidence reposed in his leadership, the governor assured supporters that his administration would continue to prioritize the welfare of the people through impactful governance and people-oriented projects.
He highlighted some of his administration’s achievements, including prompt payment of salaries and pensions, road construction, and improvements in the health and education sectors.
Governor Alia also disclosed that more development projects are underway to consolidate existing gains and expand economic opportunities across the state.
He further acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, especially in strengthening security of lives and property, which he described as vital to the success of government programmes in Benue.
On party unity, the governor announced that he had written to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, requesting a meeting of the entire Benue APC family to reconcile differences and present a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, leaders of both groups said their decision to purchase the nomination forms was based on the governor’s regular payment of pensions, gratuities, and salaries, rural and township road projects, and installation of solar streetlights to improve night security.
