A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Lagos, Ushie Rita Uguamaye — popularly known as “Raye” — has accused the scheme of withholding her discharge certificate in what she claims is retaliation for her past criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Ms Uguamaye, who gained public attention earlier this year after a viral TikTok video in which she criticised the Tinubu government and described Lagos as a “smelling state,” alleged that her travails began during the April clearance exercise.

In a video shared on Instagram on Saturday, the corps member claimed her Local Government Inspector (LGI) repeatedly ordered her to “go to the back” of the line during the clearance, before eventually seizing her file and refusing to attend to her.

“I was present on the scheduled date for April clearance,” she insisted. “But the LGI kept telling me to go to the back until my file was taken away. I was later told I would not get my discharge certificate because I missed the April clearance — which is not true.”

The corps member, visibly frustrated, said she believed the treatment was linked to her viral criticism of the Lagos environment and the federal government.

“I genuinely wish I wasn’t a Lagos State corps member because it’s a waste of my time,” she wrote on social media, adding that she had decided to move on from the matter despite her disappointment.

The NYSC has yet to comment on the allegations. Efforts to reach the scheme’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Edwin Megwa, proved unsuccessful as calls and messages to his mobile phone went unanswered.
