The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough following the successful rescue of all passengers abducted during the Otukpo incident involving a Benue Links bus on April 15, 2026.

In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence, prompting coordinated clearance raids by operatives of the Benue State Police Command across the Amla Forest corridor and nearby areas.

According to the police, the final batch of 13 victims  including eight students en route to Otukpo for their UTME examinations  were safely rescued during the operation, bringing the total number of recovered passengers to 18.

“All victims have now been accounted for. They have undergone medical checks, are in stable condition, and will be reunited with their families after necessary debriefing,” the statement read.

The police also confirmed the arrest of seven suspects during the operation, with three already identified as active members of the kidnapping gang. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices and dismantle the wider criminal network behind the attack.

The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation in line with legal procedures.

Reacting to the development, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the officers involved for their courage and professionalism. He further directed intensified security operations in the Otukpo axis to prevent future incidents.

The police reassured Nigerians of their continued commitment to protecting lives and property across the country.
