Sixteen lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly have abandoned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), escalating the political tension in the state.
The defectors, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, made their move public during Friday’s plenary session. Amaewhule explained that the lawmakers were leaving the PDP due to what he called a “deepening rift” within the party.
